Our Featured Program: T2 Fresh Start Initiative
Registration is open for our next T2 Fresh Start Initiative cohorts! Our grant-funded, comprehensive wellness program was created to reduce the health disparities impacting individuals living under-resourced communities in the United States. Fitness training, nutritional counseling, life coaching, and wellness support and guidance will be delivered FREE to 25-30 women involved in each 12-week cohort.
T2 Fresh Start Initiative cohorts are taking place in the following cities in 2023:
Norfolk, Va, Franklin, Va, Suffolk, Va, and Petersburg, Va.
Our next cohorts will take place in Norfolk at Norview Recreation Center and in Suffolk at East Suffolk Recreation Center. Also, the focus for our next Norfolk cohort will be diabetes. Participants must be diagnosed with diabetes to attend our Norfolk cohort, which will start in September 2023. We are so excited about the impact the T2 Fresh Start Initiative will have in the Commonwealth of Virginia this year! Make sure you check back here in August for when registration opens!

Outcomes From Our Previous Cohort
OUTCOMES MEASURED CONSISTS OF THE FOLLOWING:
*Assessing whether participants increase how often they check their blood pressure or blood glucose level
*Assessing whether participants can reduce their diastolic pressure at least 2-4 points.
*Assessing whether participants can reduce their hbA1C by 1 to 2 points, if over the 6.5% threshold.
*Assess whether participants now have the ability to choose and prepare healthier food choices.
*Assessing whether participants will increase their physical activity on a weekly basis.
*Assessing self-efficacy; whether participants feel they have the ability, tools, and motivation to live a healthier lifestyle, given their income status, busy schedule, and/or environment.
OUTCOME RESULTS:
Our Suffolk cohort was held from April 2023 to June 2023.
Based on data collected before and after individuals participated in this cohort, we saw the following: *On average, participants were reported as now checking their blood pressure 6 times a week compared to 1.4 times a week at the start of the program
*At the start of the program participants checked their blood pressure on average 2.2 times a week. Once they completed the program they were checking their blood pressure 4 times a week.
*86% of participants decreased their blood pressure.
*29% of participants decreased their diastolic blood pressure between 1-5 points.
*14% of participants decreased their blood pressure between 6-10 points.
*48% of participants decreased their blood pressure more than 10 points.
We are so excited that since participating in the T2 Fresh Start Initiative, more participants have found the confidence, tools, and ability to lead healthier choices for years to come.
*92% of participants are moderately confident they are able to prepare healthy meals while faced with life stressors.
